Dear Missionaries of the Congregation of the Mission,
This special issue of our magazine “Nuntia” is an occasion of deep joy and reflection for all of us.
We celebrate a historic moment: the beatification of Ján Havlík, seminarian and martyr of the faith, which took place on August 31, 2024, in Šaštin, Slovakia. Ján, a young Vincentian, was a shining example of fidelity to the mission, facing persecution and suffering with the strength of one who lives for Christ. In him, we find the embodiment of a missionary disciple, faithful to the point of ultimate sacrifice, who invites us to renew our commitment to following the Gospel.
This edition is dedicated to his testimony, a ray of light that illuminates our mission and encourages us to persevere with boldness and love. May Blessed Ján Havlík intercede for us and inspire us daily in our missionary journey.
On 12 February, the Church commemorates Blessed Ján Havlik, a young Slovak Vincentian who bore witness to the faith to the point of heroism. Born in 1928, he was persecuted by the communist regime for his religious vocation, suffering torture, imprisonment and forced labour. His life, marked by suffering and unconditional love for Christ, ended prematurely in 1965, leaving a legacy of courage and holiness. Discover the story of this witness to the faith, an example of spiritual resistance and evangelical fidelity.
Mons. František Rábek, Ordinary of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic, visited the Penitentiary Department of Sabinov to consecrate the newly built chapel dedicated to the Blessed Ján Havlík.
On 3 August 2025, Pier Giorgio Frassati will be canonised by Pope Francis. Discover the story of a man who combined faith, justice and love to transform the world, leaving a shining example for young people and the Church.
