Skip to contentAs a faithful member of the Congregation of the Mission (Lazarists), he did not hesitate to venture into and travel across the vast frontier lands. There, he provided pastoral care to the simplest communities and, in times of great tension and conflict, stood out for his spirit of dialogue and peacemaking with indigenous peoples.
His story took a providential turn at a decisive moment: finding himself in grave danger of death, he made a solemn promise to Our Lady of Luján to dedicate his life to spreading her devotion if he were spared. Faithful to his word, Father Salvaire became from that moment on the great promoter and historian of the Shrine of the Basilica of Our Lady of Luján, transforming a personal miracle into a work of faith that today is a source of pride for an entire nation.
In addition to his tireless missionary work, Salvaire was the great narrator of the origins of Our Lady of Luján, firmly establishing her as the supreme symbol of identity and spirituality of the Argentine people. His immense legacy remains alive in the faith of every pilgrim. In 2016, his cause for beatification was opened in Luján, and today we have the great grace that his remains rest in the Basilica itself, just above the altar of the Miraculous Medal.
