St. Vincent de Paul
St. Vincent de Paul was born into a peasant family in Pouy, in southwestern France. From a young age, he showed intellectual abilities that prompted his parents to send him to study with the Franciscans in Dax.
He continued his theological training in Toulouse and was ordained a priest in 1600 when he was only 19 years old. A significant episode in his life occurred when he was captured by Turkish pirates and sold into slavery in Tunisia, where he remained until he managed to escape after converting his master to Christianity.
Upon returning to France, St. Vincent experienced a profound spiritual conversion that led him to dedicate himself to the service of the poor and marginalized. In 1617, his encounter with a dying peasant in Folleville marked the beginning of his commitment to the evangelization of the poor in rural areas.
He founded the Congregation of the Mission in 1625, with the aim of bringing the Gospel to rural areas and training priests. In 1633, together with St. Louise de Marillac, he founded the Daughters of Charity, a religious congregation dedicated to the service of the poorest and sickest.
St. Vincent was known for his humility, charity and dedication to the cause of the needy, becoming an influential reformer of the Church in France. He died on September 27, 1660, in Paris, and today is venerated as the patron saint of all works of charity.

Provinces
A province is the territorial unit that defines the presence of the Congregation of the Mission and its particular government. Since the birth of the provinces, there has been a spirit of collaboration and fraternity that has led to a structure of continental and interprovincial unity. These intermediate units between the local and the international organization are called Visitors’ Conferences.
The Visitors’ Conferences represent the expression of the Vincentian charism through interprovincial collaboration. They facilitate joint initiatives among the provinces, giving identity to the mission and offering opportunities to consolidate shared experiences in common contexts.
