Saints

Saint Vincent de Paul

Founder of the Congregation of the Mission and the Daughters of Charity together with St. Louise de Marillac, he dedicated his life to the service of the poor and the formation of the clergy. He was born in 1581 in Pouy, France and died in Paris in 1660. He was canonized in 1737 and proclaimed Patron of Charity by Leo XIII.

Saint Louise de Marillac

Co-foundress of the Daughters of Charity, she dedicated her life to helping the poor under the guidance of St. Vincent de Paul. She died in 1660 and was canonized in 1934. John XXIII proclaimed her patroness of Christian social works. Her liturgical memorial is May 9.

Saint Justin de Jacobis

A missionary in Ethiopia for twenty years, he was named bishop and apostolic prefect in 1849. He overcame numerous persecutions and died in Alighede in 1860. He was canonized in 1975. His liturgical memorial is July 30.

Saint John Gabriel Perboyre

A missionary in China, he was martyred in Outchanfou in 1840 after being betrayed and tortured. He was canonized in 1996. His liturgical memorial is September 11.

Saint Francis-Régis Clet

A missionary in China for thirty years, he was martyred in Outchangfou in 1820. Beatified in 1900, he was canonized in 2000 along with 119 other martyrs of China. His liturgical memorial is February 18.

Saint Catherine Laboure, D.C.

A Daughter of Charity, she was privileged to have an apparition of the Immaculate Virgin. She dedicated her life to the poor with humility. She died in 1876 and was canonized in 1947. Her liturgical memorial is November 28.

Saint Jeanne Antide Thouret

As a Sister of Charity, she dedicated her life to the care of the poor and sick, even during the French Revolution. She died in 1826 and was canonized in 1934. Her liturgical memorial is May 23.

Saint Agostina Pietrantoni

A nurse at the Santo Spirito Hospital in Rome, she devoted herself to tuberculosis patients with great charity. She was killed by one of the patients in 1894. Beatified in 1972 and canonized in 1999, she is remembered for her tireless service to the poor and suffering. Her liturgical memorial is November 13.

Saint Elizabeth Seton

Foundress of the Sisters of Charity, she was the first American-born saint. Converted to Catholicism after the death of her husband, she devoted herself to education and charitable works. She died in 1821 and was canonized in 1975. Her liturgical memorial is on January 4.
